According to self-proclaimed football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are now putting together the final details for the signing of Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister.
Romano has reported that the Argentina 2022 FIFA World Cup winning midfielder will join The Reds for the surprisingly low fee of £35 million.
Mac Allister will become the first signing of what is expected to be a relatively busy summer for Jurgen Klopp’s side, following on from the end of contract departures of Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner and Roberto Firmino.
Mac Allister joined Brighton in the summer of 2019, moving from Argentinos Juniors at the age of just 21. The Santa Rosa-born midfielder has already earned 16 caps for his country, playing a key role in helping them win their third world title in Qatar a few months ago.
Whilst with The Seagulls, the 24 year-old has played 112 games for the club, scoring 20 times and showing excellent versatility. He has been deployed as a winger, number ten, defensive midfielder and a natural box-to-box central midfielder.
Liverpool have also been heavily linked with the likes of Ryan Gravenburch and Mason Mount and they are expected to sign at least one more midfielder as Klopp seeks to rejuvenate his squad after missing out on a top four finish and UEFA Champions League qualification last season.
