Cardiff City have been placed under a transfer embargo due to not paying the first instalment of the transfer fee for Emiliano Sala.
The Bluebirds lost their appeal to Fifa which meant that they would have to pay £15m to Nantes for the transfer of the Argentinian, who died tragically while travelling to join the club.
Despite this, Cardiff City chairman Mehmet Dalman says that the club has “no intention of paying” and he’s expecting the club to have the embargo lifted ahead of the January transfer window. Failing that, the transfer embargo could last as long as three windows, up until the start of the 2024/25 season.
Cardiff are currently talking to the Football League and Fifa to try and rectify the situation.
Dalman will be hoping the case is sorted before January, as Cardiff may well need to bring in reinforcements with the Welsh side 20th in the Championship, just one point ahead of the drop zone ahead of today’s fixtures.
