Dovbyk's 120th minute winner sends Ukraine to Rome

Artem Dovbyk’s first Ukraine goal mere seconds from a decisive penalty shootout sent his side to a quarter-final meeting with England in Rome on Saturday, following a 2-1 win over Sweden tonight.

A cagey opening 25 minutes was punctuated by a sublime outside of the boot pass from Andriy Yarmolenko, landing at the feet of Oleksandr Zinchenko who blasted the ball straight through Robin Olsen.

Emil Forsberg equalised from distance with a deflected strike before the break, but it was the second half where things picked up with Sergey Sydorchuk striking the post early on.

Forberg then twice hit the frame of the goal with two brilliantly taken efforts, while Dejan Kulusevski started to threaten.

Sweden may have been confident heading into extra time after how they ended the 90 minutes, but were soon put on the back foot when Markus Danielsson saw red for a challenge that could have easily broken Artem Besedin’s leg.

Ukraine quickly took the impetus and began attacking, and in stoppage time when the game looked certain to be heading to a shootout, Zinchenko conjured up more magic on the far touchline, firing an inch-perfect cross onto the head of Dovbyk to send Ukraine through to the last eight.
