Klopp & Liverpool's owners reaffirm commitment

With the worst home form seen at Anfield in nearly 70 years and an almost certain lack of Champions League football next season, questions were beginning to increase about Jurgen Klopp’s future at Liverpool.

However, in a week that could see the end of Liverpool’s season should Leipzig overturn a 2-0 Champions League first-leg deficit, both Klopp and the club’s owners have reaffirmed their commitment to each other.

Klopp, whose future was put in further doubt today following the news that Germany boss Joachim Löw will be stepping aside this summer, dismissed links to that role saying: “Am I available for the job of coach of the German national team in the summer? No.”

“I am pretty sure with the amount of really good German managers at the moment the German FA will find a good solution. After this summer, I will not be available as a potential coach for the German team.”

Clarifying his position outside of the Germany rumours, Klopp, who had previously signed until the end of this season before securing a three-year extension added: “Well, I have three years left at Liverpool. That’s a simple statement, a simple situation.”

“You sign a contract and you normally try to stick to that contract, don’t you? I had a contract in Mainz where I stuck with them even though there was interest from other Bundesliga teams with more money. It is just timing and if it doesn’t work out you don’t have to lose any sleep over it.”

The story has been similar with Liverpool’s ownership who, despite not making any statement on the record are believed to be fully behind their manager.

Well-sourced Liverpool journalist Paul Joyce confirming that belief in The Times saying: “After five years of progress FSG will not abandon Jurgen Klopp and plans to make money available to strengthen the team despite the increasing likelihood of missing out on a place in the Champions League next season.”

Liverpool face RB Leipzig in the second leg of their last 16 Champions League tie tomorrow, 2-0 up with a chance to advance to the quarters, while in the Premier League they sit seven points from the top four.
