Scotland maintained their flawless performance in Group A of Euro 2024 qualifying by defeating Georgia 2-0, although the match experienced a delay of approximately 100 minutes.
Due to heavy rain, the game at Hampden Park was suspended shortly after starting and eventually resumed at 9:35 pm local time.
Nevertheless, Scotland managed to score an early goal through Callum McGregor, who fired a powerful shot into the net after six minutes.
However, the game was quickly halted due to the unplayable condition of the pitch. Both teams retreated to their changing rooms as Hungarian referee Istvan Vad carefully inspected the field and ground staff worked vigorously to clear the surface water.
After a lengthy delay, the Scotland players returned to the pitch at around 9:15 pm, but the Georgia squad did not reappear. There was confusion about whether the game would continue.
An announcement was eventually made that the match would resume at 9:30 pm, around the original finishing time, but it took until 9:35 pm for the ball to be kicked again.
The hosts' patience paid off when Scott McTominay doubled their lead just two minutes after the restart.
In stoppage time, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia missed a penalty for Georgia, allowing Steve Clarke's team to secure an eight-point lead at the top of the group.
With wins over Cyprus and Spain in March, and a remarkable comeback against Norway on Saturday, Scotland now has 12 points and are top of the group.
