Tottenham conceded seven goals at home for the first time in their history as Bayern Munich ran riot over a stunned Spurs team.
Son Heuing-Min had given the hosts an early lead but was quickly pegged back by Joshua Kimmich three minutes later, before Robert Lewandowski gave Bayern a half time lead.
And just eight minutes into the restart, ex-Arsenal prodigy Serge Gnabry netted twice in two minutes, causing chaos coming in from the left, firing past Hugo Lloris.
Harry Kane gave Tottenham some hope as he equalised from the spot with half an hour to play but Gnabry found the net twice more, either side of Lewandowski’s second to take home the match ball with change.
The only shred of good news was Crvena Zvezda staging a late second half comeback against Olympiakos to win 3-1, stopping the Greek side from putting distance between themselves and Spurs who drew last time out.
Raheem Sterling won a tough tie for Manchester City with a home win over Dinamo Zagreb, as Phil Foden added an extra goal in the 95th minute to win 2-0. Elsewhere in Group C, Atalanta were defeated again, this time by Shaktar in one of the early kick-offs.
Also playing in the early starts, Real Madrid drew 2-2 at home to Club Brugge, with Sergio Ramos and Casemiro scoring after Emmanuel Bonaventure had scored two extraordinary accidentally improvised finishes to give his side a two-goal lead.
In Turkey Mauro Icardi bagged his first goal for PSG, the only goal in a win over Galatasaray, taking them top of Group A with Real Madrid last on a single point.
And in Group D, Altético Madrid and Juventus both picked up wins, with Gonzalo Higuain and Cristiano Ronaldo’s partnership showing promising signs as they both scored in a 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen. João Félix and Thomas Partey were the scorers in Atléti’s 2-0 win away at Lokomotiv Moscow.
