Chelsea qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League with a 2-1 win over Lille, while Valencia knocked out last year’s semi-finalists, Ajax.
First-half goals from Tammy Abraham and Cesar Azpilicueta meant a Loic Remy consolation was not enough to stop Chelsea making the knockout stages of the Champions League with a 2-1 win, while elsewhere in Group H there was a huge upset.
Valencia travelled to Amsterdam to take on last season’s semi-finalists Ajax, who had previously beaten them 3-0 at Mestalla, but instead a single goal from Rodrigo won three points which see Valencia top the group ahead of Chelsea, and Ajax exit the competition.
And there was yet more drama in an extremely competitive Group F where a Borussia Dortmund side in awful form looked on their way out of the competition at half-time after Slavia Praha’s Toma Souek had cancelled out Jadon Sancho’s opener.
And at San Siro, Romelu Lukaku had equalised after Carles Pérez to give the away side the lead, meaning Inter were through as things stood.
But the second-half saw a Julian Weigl winner for Dortmund, while Ansu Fati became the Champions League’s youngest ever goalscorer at 17 years and 40 days old with a goal that secured Barcelona’s top spot, and Inter’s exit from the competition.
And in Group G there was even more topsy-turvy action, where Benfica took a 3-0 lead against Zenit which would have seen them through as runners-up, but in the group’s other game, Lyon came back from 2-0 down to grab a late point courtesy of Memphis Depay, which sent the French side narrowly through to the next phase.
