Real Madrid won their eighth Club World Cup trophy with an eight-goal thriller against Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal.
Two goals on quick succession from Vinícius Júnior and Fede Valverde gave the Spanish side a 2-0 lead with just 18 minutes gone.
But Al Hilal deserve credit for the part they played in the game giving their illustrious opponents a difficult night. Moussa Marega pulled one back for Ramón Díaz’s team to make the score 2-1 at half-time.
Madrid probably fought that the game was wrapped up when Karim Benzema made it 3-1 in the 54th minute and Valverde struck again shortly after to make it 4-1.
However, Al Hilal kept going and Real Madrid’s defence looked ropey at best. Luciano Vietto reduced the deficit with a lovely finish to put the Asian side back in the game.
Vinícius scored Real Madrid’s fifth before Vietto again struck to reduce the deficit once more and keep the last stages of the game much more interesting.
This result further adds to Real Madrid’s impressive trophy collection to an even 100 major honours.
