Paris Saint-Germain manager Christophe Galtier has confirmed that Lionel Messi will leave the club after two seasons in the French capital.
Speaking to reporters ahead of PSG’s final game of the season against Clermont Foot on Saturday, Galtier said: “I had the privilege of coaching the best player in the history of football. This will be his last match at the Parc des Princes, and I hope that he will receive the warmest of welcomes.
“This year, he has been an important part of the team, always available. I don't think any of the comments or criticisms are justified.
“He's always been there for the team. It's been a great privilege to accompany him throughout the season.”
Should Messi play on Saturday it will be his 75th appearance for the Parisian club, having scored 32 goals in his 74 games so far. He won Ligue 1 with the club in both of his seasons as well as the French Super Cup (Trophée des Champions) in 2022.
Reports have linked the player – who as Galtier said is arguably the sport’s greatest ever – with a return to Barcelona as well as a switch to the MLS or a big-money move to Saudi Arabia.
