Trent Alexander-Arnold had an impressive performance in midfield and scored a remarkable goal as England eased past Malta with an emphatic 4-0 win in the Euro 2024 qualifying match, maintaining their perfect record.
Alexander-Arnold was given the no.10 shirt and played in a more advanced position and the decision paid off for Gareth Southgate as the Liverpool player made an impact just eight minutes into the match.
Bukayo Saka received a superb long-range pass from Alexander-Arnold and delivered a low cross, which was unintentionally deflected into the net by Malta defender Ferdinando Apap.
The Liverpool-born continued to shine and scored in the 28th minute with a sensational 25-yard shot that curved into the far corner of the goal.
Shortly after, Harry Kane extended England's lead to three goals by winning and converting a penalty kick, marking his 56th goal for the Three Lions.
In the second half, the Three Lions maintained control of the game and eventually increased their lead when substitute Callum Wilson scored a penalty eight minutes from time.
With this victory, Gareth Southgate's men remain at the top of Group C in the qualifying stage, having won all three of their matches and being six points ahead of the second place.
The next focus for the English team is the home qualifier against North Macedonia, which will take place on Monday evening at Wembley.
