Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets has announced his retirement from international football with Spain.
The 34-year-old midfielder won the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 European Championships with La Roja, and captained his country as Spain were knocked out in the round of 16 at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
"After almost 15 years and 143 matches, the moment has arrived to bid farewell to the national team," he wrote on social media.
"It has been an honour to represent my national team and help lift it higher."
The third musketeer in the revered Spanish midfield trio of Busquets-Iniesta-Xavi, the playmaker has spent his entire playing career with Barcelona at club level and made nearly 700 appearances for the Blaugrana, winning eight La Liga titles and three Champions Leagues.
He made his debut for Spain back in April 2009 and went on to feature for his country at four World Cups and three European Championships.
