League Two club Morecambe have announced the departure of their manager Derek Adams this morning with immediate effect.
The club have said that a contractual release clause was met and, despite wanting Adams to stay, he has left the Lancastrian club to ‘pursue an opportunity elsewhere’. It is expected that Adams will soon be appointed manager of Ross County, replacing former Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay with the Scottish Premiership side.
It is the second time that Adams has resigned as Morecambe manager after previously doing so in 2021 before returning in 2022.
Adams began his managerial career with two three-year spells, between 2007 and 2010 then 2011 and 2014, with the aforementioned Ross County. He took over at Plymouth Argyle in 2015 and remained with The Pilgrims for four years, which included a promotion to League One.
In 2019, Adams was appointed Morecambe boss and led them so survival before then earning a promotion to the third-tier for the first time ever in 2021, via the playoffs. After that success, he opted to return to League Two with Bradford City but left in early 2022, returning to Morecambe where he pulled off another excellent escape from relegation.
The Shrimps were relegated from League One last season and but sit in the top-half of the table in League Two, just two points off the top seven and the playoff places.
Ross County are currently eleventh in the Premiership table after avoiding relegation last season with a win in the relegation/promotion playoff match against Partick Thistle.
