Newcastle United are once again being linked with Southampton midfielder Carlos Alcaraz.
The Magpies were strongly linked with the Argentinian during the summer after the Saints were relegated from the Premier League and apparently enquired about a move for the playmaker.
While Newcastle eventually didn’t put in an official bid for Alcaraz, Eddie Howes’s team may now attempt to capture the 20-year-old and bolster their midfield options especially after the club lost out on signing James Maddison from Leicester City last summer.
After winning three and drawing one of their first four games in the second tier, Southampton have struggled since losing their last three games in a row.
Interestingly, Alcaraz did not start any of those three defeats though he did impress for the Saints last season after his £12-million move from Racing Club.
