Reports suggest that Sporting manager Ruben Amorim is close to agreeing a three-year deal as Jurgen Klopp's successor at Liverpool.
According to Sky Sports Germany, the Reds have a 'verbal agreement' already in place with Amorim and the Portuguese manager's representatives will now meet with Liverpool on Tuesday to potentially finalise a deal.
With Sporting currently on course for a league and cup double this season, Liverpool appear to be acting swiftly to tie up a deal for Amorim and Portuguese daily Correio da Manha are now reporting that the Merseysiders will meet with Amorim’s agent, Raul Costa, on Tuesday to “outline the terms of an agreement.”
Recent speculation had also linked Amorim to a potential move to Bayern Munich, but Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has stated that Amorim's preferred destination is Anfield.
Any deal with Amorim will need to factor in a compensation package for Sporting, although this is reportedly a minor issue given that Amorim has a release clause in his contract.
Exact details regarding the size of Amorim's release clause are proving elusive, but the consensus is that it stands at €20 million (£17.16m) for clubs outside of Portugal - although there are suggestions that Amorim and Sporting have a gentlemen's agreement that would allow him to leave for less.
Sources on Merseyside currently insist that negotiations are not as far along as Portuguese media reports suggest.
