Salah and Origi seal record-breaking win for Liverpool

Liverpool became the first English side in history to win all six games in a Champions League group stage, after the Merseysiders beat AC Milan 2-1 in the Champions League at the San Siro to send the Italians spinning out of European competition.

With first place already secured, Jurgen Klopp made several changes from the team that beat Wolves last Saturday, while the Rossoneri needed a win to have any chance of of progressing from Group B.

Former Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori gave Milan the lead to raise Italian hopes of reaching the last 16 - the Englishman tapping home just before the half hour mark.

However, Liverpool struck back soon after when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's shot was saved but spilled into the path of Mohamed Salah, who finished his 20th goal of the season to level the score at the break.

In the second-half, Divock Origi scored his first goal in the competition since the 2019 Champions League final against Tottenham, nodding in a rebound after Sadio Mane had seized upon an error and forced a strange save out of Mike Maignan.

With this result, Jurgen Klopp's men retained their perfect showing in the Champions League group with six wins from six games, while AC Milan finished bottom of the Group B table, with Atletico Madrid finishing second after a 3-1 away win at FC Porto, who finished third and now head to the Europa League.

With no Champions League for the next two months, Liverpool will now turn their attentions to the Premier League. They will host Aston Villa on Saturday, which sees a return to Anfield for club legend Steven Gerrard.
