The introduction of VAR has spiced up the 2018 World Cup with a record number of penalties - but it is proving rather difficult to convert them. The latest player to feel the heat was Luka Modric - who missed the SEVENTH spot-kick of these finals in Croatia's win against Denmark (3-2 p.g) on Sunday.

The Croatian captain is at least in celebrated company, with the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo also failing from the spot this summer. Further, Real Madrid midfielder Modric had the last laugh: seizing a second chance to net a penalty in his homeland's dramatic shootout win.
