Wigan Athletic drew 1-1 against Norwich City away at Carrow Road last weekend, which gives them an impressive record on the road.
Latics had taken the lead in the game through James McClean until Max Aarons equalised for Dean Smith’s side. The result means that since the beginning of last season no other team has won as many points away from home as Wigan Athletic since the start of the 2021/22 season.
Indeed, last year Wigan won more away games (14) in the league than any other side from the EFL with the Premier League’s Manchester City the only team able to match it.
And it’s only the Citizens who can compete with Wigan when it comes to points on the road, both teams are tied with 49 points.
Of course, City have played fewer games (20) in that time compared to Leam Richardson’s team (24), but it’s still a mightily impressive record considering how close League Two was compared to the Premier League last season.
In those 24 games, Wigan scored 47 goals – more than Manchester City but not quite as many as Fulham. The Cottagers were tearing the Championship apart last term and managed a half-century of goals on their travels.
Now Wigan need to try and keep up that fantastic away form to help them stay in the second tier this season.
