Kai Havertz scored in the final minute to seal Chelsea a late 1-0 win over a resilient Newcastle at Stamford Bridge.
Action: In a very dramatic week for Chelsea, after Blues' Russian owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK government, Thomas Tuchel's men needed to win to keep their Premier League chase, but also to give their fans something to cheer about after a difficult period.
The first-half was really poor with both sides struggling to create clear-cut chances, but Eddie Howe's side impressed in spells in the first half, with the visitors looking confident with their 8-game unbeaten run.
The Magpies thought Kai Havertz should of been sent off in the first half for catching Dan Burn in the face with an elbow when jumping. The referee David Coote handed the German a yellow card and a VAR check confirmed his decision.
Both sides had penalty shouts waved away in the second half. Firstly, Jacob Murphy went down under a challenge from Trevoh Chalobah, and then Martin Dúbravka fouled Timo Werner, but the German forward was caught offside.
The Blues only registered their first a shot on target in the 75th minute, but then managed to take the lead. Kai Havertz headed home the winner in the 89th minute, after a incredible delivery from Jorginho.
Big Picture: It was Chelsea's fifth Premier League win in a row and strengthens their hold on third. Tuchel's men will now switch their focus to the Champions League when they travel to Lille on Wednesday evening, looking to book their place in the quarter-finals with their two-goal advantage.
Eddie Howe's men lost their first Premier League game in 2022, but will keep their relegation battle and their next Premier League game will see them travel to face Everton on Thursday, in a game that could prove to be a key fixture in this season's relegation battle.
