Leicester City and Everton played out an exciting 2-2 draw at the King Power Stadium on Monday night, as both teams remain in trouble in the Premier League relegation battle.

The Toffees had the first chance of the game with Alex Iwobi's side-footed strike, which was brilliantly tipped over the crossbar by Daniel Iversen.

Leicester responded soon after with a decent chance from Jamie Vardy, who cut the ball back to James Maddison but was unable to generate enough power on the shot to trouble Jordan Pickford.

In the 13th minute, Everton was awarded a penalty after Timothy Castagne pushed Calvert-Lewin in the back.

The Toffees' No.9 smashed the resulting spot-kick down the middle to give the visitors the lead.

Everton's goal seemed to give Everton an extra spark in the final third, but their momentum was quickly quashed when Çaglar Soyuncu scored a goal for Leicester in the 21st minute.

A dangerous delivery into the penalty area was eventually headed into the centre by Wout Faes and picked out Soyuncu, who slid a volley beyond the outstretched fingertips of Pickford to restore parity.

The Foxes then completed the comeback in the 32nd minute, with Vardy running through on goal before rounding Pickford and striking into an empty net.

Both teams ended the half strongly, with the visitors presented with two great opportunities to level the scores in the final five minutes. The first-time strike from Dwight McNeil was saved at point-blank range by Iversen, and the Foxes' shot-stopper also kept out another close-range effort from Calvert-Lewin.

In the ninth minute of first-half stoppage time, referee Michael Oliver awarded Leicester a penalty kick after Michael Keane stretched his arm to stop Harvey Barnes' cross, but Maddison was denied from the penalty spot by Jordan Pickford.

In the second half, Everton levelled through Iwobi's composed first-time volley, nine minutes after the break.

Dean Smith's men reacted well and came close to retaking the lead just before the hour mark when a header from Vardy was cleared off the line by James Tarkowski.

In the end, neither side could find a winner, and the match finished 2-2.

With this result, Leicester move out of the relegation zone on goal difference, now sitting in 16th place and level on points with both Leeds United and Nottingham Forest below them, while Everton remained in 19th place, one point further back.

Both teams now have a week to prepare for their next Premier League fixtures, with Leicester traveling to face Fulham and Everton away to Brighton & Hove Albion.
