Robert Lewandowski is moving closer to Barcelona in a £42.5m deal with Bayern, despite public statements, considering Cristiano Ronaldo as his replacement.
The Polish striker, who has been at the Bavarian club for eight seasons following his arrival from Borussia Dortmund, told Bayern that he wanted to leave last month with Barcelona his preferred destination.
Despite the Catalan club’s precarious finances, Lewandowski is reportedly set to fly to Miami on Sunday to join up with the Barcelona team and sign a three-year deal with the option for another 12 months.
Should the 33-year-old leave the club then Cristiano Ronaldo is still being linked with a switch to the Bundesliga.
The legendary Portuguese forward also told his club of his desire to leave this summer with Manchester United currently on a pre-season tour without the player due to family reasons.
Initially, figures at Bayern like Oliver Kahn dismissed reports of Ronaldo moving to the club. But a tweet from Maximilian Koch of the Abendzeitung has hinted that Munich could still be the United player’s next destination.
