Rotherham United have sacked manager Leam Richardson after 24 games in charge with the club already relegated.

The Millers brought in Richardson in December after dismissing Matthew Taylor, now the manager of Bristol Rovers, earlier in the season.

But the former Wigan Athletic boss was not able to prevent Rotherham from relegation back to League One – something that was confirmed earlier this month.

Rotherham won just two of the 24 games under Richardson – against Middlesbrough on Boxing Day and Millwall on April 1st.

Today the club announced the dismissal of Richardson as well as assistant head coach Rob Kelly.

"Everyone at Rotherham United would like to thank Leam and Rob for all their efforts and wish them well for the future," a statement on the Rotherham website said.

"The search to appoint a new first team manager is already under way, with further communication to follow in due course.

"Rotherham United will be making no further comment at this time."

The Millers are back in action this weekend as they host Birmingham City, a team who themselves are fighting relegation this season.

As a football fan, I am disappointed to see Leam Richardson and Rob Kelly dismissed from Rotherham United after only 24 games in charge. It's a tough position to come into mid-season and try to turn a struggling team around, especially with the added pressure of being already relegated. Wishing them both the best for the future.

As a passionate football fan, it's always tough to see a manager get sacked, but I do believe it was necessary in this case. 24 games without a win is simply not good enough, especially when it results in relegation. Wishing Leam and Rob all the best in their future endeavors. Excited to see who will be the next manager for Rotherham United!
