Manchester United have finally confirmed the appointment of Ajax boss Erik ten Hag to take over the club this summer.
The Dutchman has signed a contract until 2025 with the option to extend for a further season.
“It is a great honour to be appointed manager of Manchester United and I am hugely excited by the challenge ahead,” the 52-year old said about his new role. “I know the history of this great club and the passion of the fans, and I am absolutely determined to develop a team capable of delivering the success they deserve.
John Murtough, the Manchester United Football Director, also commented on the Erik then Hag’s arrival: “During the past four years at Ajax, Erik has proved himself to be one of the most exciting and successful coaches in Europe, renowned for his team’s attractive, attacking football and commitment to youth.
“In our conversations with Erik leading up to this appointment, we were deeply impressed with his long-term vision for returning Manchester United to the level we want to be competing at, and his drive and determination to achieve that.”
According to reports, Ten Hag's assistant Mitchell van der Gaag will also join the club.
As manager of Ajax, Ten Hag has won the Eredivisie twice, the KNVB Cup twice, and the Johan Cruyff Shield, as well as reasserting the Dutch club as a force in European football. He has a big job to do to help rebuild Manchester United after a hugely disappointing season at Old Trafford.
